Things I found that could help.... Improvisation
I have been thinking about how I can improve my idea to say more about how masks can be a way of how we react and show ourselves within social situations. So looking through google images I have come across these images. Someone mentioned to me about the emoticons that are used when talking to people on msn , skype, etc.. which has sparked an idea. Chats through typing generally use smily faces, sad faces or silly faces. The thought of this as a mask to show people how we feel through online chat is something I am starting to look into so I have added some images to this with examples of those faces.

This image is looking at the way people people react in social situations. I am basing my idea on people using different masks to portray themselves in comfortable and uncomfortable circumstances.
As people use social masks they will have more than one. Here the subject is deciding which one to put on before going out for the day. Taking the mask off reveals no features as the social mask fulfills that characteristic. As per in this scene, one mask resembles a happy face while the other is grumpy. This opens up the possibility for him to have a positive or negative mood throughout the day.

In this image the subject is removing his social mask after returning home. I feel that the lighting within this image could possibly be slightly darker to portray the idea of how the occupant feels without his social mask on, needing the privacy of his home to be able to walk around without it.

Here the subject is at home where he is relaxed. Being relaxed has a neutral effect on his emotions. This image is particularily providing an idea on the overall mask theme as it is over lapping his shirt. Right now I am looking at how I can portray this idea and what ideas can have the strongest appearence.
My initial idea for my first project is regarding how people react in various social situations. As we all act differently when we are nervous around others or when we are confident with people we know well it is as if we simply put on different masks each time we go out. My shoots will focus on the moments we are at home, through to when we are deep within the socialising circle.

I'm interested in this group as it looks at common objects found in everyday life through numerous perspectives. Various images have used colour and texture to involve the object with the surrounding context and transform it into something else or form an abstract picture.

This group interests me as the lack of colour brings out the detail and meaning in the photographs. The black and white takes away the distraction of colour as you focus deeply on the objects and people, in contrast with the space surrounding them, picking out the smaller characteristics of the story the photographer is portraying behind the image.

When I look at some of the images in this group I wonder what the photographer was thinking about when shooting these. I am interested in this group as the photographers view seems mysterious towards what they were focusing on. It presents the opportunity to have your own opinion of the narrative of the image.

Big Brother
This image by Jonas Bendiksen portrayed in his book "Satellites" depicts the communist regieme that formally had a strong grip around the USSR. The face of Joseph Stalin reminds me of the book "1984" by George Orwell as he watches on through a TV screen as a women sews in a dull lit room. The shadows creap in as there seems to be no way out, no freedom. I feel that the lighting depicts the dark power that Stalin had over the people towards the end of his years as dictator.
